Multi-Family Housing
Neighborhood Housing Services of Orange County Multifamily Housing Program is about people. It’s about the rich diversity of ages, races, ethnic backgrounds and incomes that define the character of NHS OC properties and of Orange County. It’s about creating resident leaders and after school programs for youth. It’s about friends and family. It's about improving neighborhoods and communities through positive development, management and leadership. NHS OC currently owns and operates 100 affordable family apartments. These include Walnut Village Apartments in Brea, 47 units; Garnet Lane Apartments, 18 units and Franklin Avenue Apartments, 15 units, in Fullerton, 18 units; Villa Camino Real, 12 units, and Grace Avenue Apartments, 4 units, in La Habra. NHS OC also rents four single-family homes to low-income working families. In 2001, Neighborhood Housing Services of Orange County became a member of the NeighborWorks® Multifamily Initiative. This designation will help create financial and professional resources resulting in capacity building strategies that focus on asset management, resident leadership and services, and preservation and development of housing. The NeighborWorks® Multifamily Initiative’s goal is to improve services provided to residents by building resident leadership programs and supporting the financial growth of families, the academic success of their children, and the safety of their neighborhoods.
Future DevelopmentDevelopment of multifamily and single-family residential housing will expand as NHS OC’s resources and opportunities grow. NHS OC works with local governments and agencies in their efforts to redevelop under-utilized commercial properties into residential and mixed-use communities. NHS OC’s certification by the U.S. Treasury Department as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) offers important financing resources for these development programs. |
